Convert Word to PDF. Saving files in PDF or XPS format Save a Word document to PDF using PDF printers

Hello friends, today I want to tell you about 4 ways to convert a word document to pdf format. When mine was completely written and designed, I was faced with the task of converting a ready-made word file with screenshots of quite an impressive size into a format acceptable for most users. The choice almost immediately fell on the pdf format, since it is characterized by high quality during conversion and compression of the document size, which is very good, especially for materials with graphics. In the process of searching for suitable resources for conversion, I chose 2 services that operate in on-line mode, and a desktop program - the work that we will consider further. It is also possible to convert directly from the Word text editor.

Quick conversion of word to pdf

Conversion using Microsoft Word. In principle, this is the easiest way to convert documents. In order for you to be able to convert directly from the Word application, download the application– “2007 Microsoft Office Add-in: Save as PDF or XPS (Microsoft)” and install it.

Starting with Microsoft Word 2007, this feature is already added by default!

On-line conversion service No. 1. Let's move on link, in the window that opens, click the Browse button, select the required file to convert, and click the Convert button.

Depending on the size of your source file, after a while (while the document is being converted, do not close the browser or refresh the page) you will be asked to save the already converted file in pdf format. Save this file to a location convenient for you and enjoy the result of your work.

On-line service for conversion No. 2. This service is a little more difficult to operate than the previous one, but there are no particular difficulties in it. Again we move on link, in the window that opens, click the green Upload button and select the required file for conversion, you can also simply drag the file into the browser window.

After the file in word format appears in the window, drag it with the mouse into the Convert field area. We enter the e-mail to which we will receive a link to download the file, and click the Convert button.

A window will immediately appear in front of you with words of thanks for using their service and a notification that a link to download the converted file will be sent to your e-mail. Depending on the size of the source file, after a while we check the mail and follow the link to download the file. Word to pdf conversion completed.

Pdfcreator conversion program. The two previous services are good and fast to use, but for fans of desktop applications I recommend using the program PDFcreator.

The program installs a virtual printer driver on your computer and if you need to convert word to pdf, then print the document as usual, only when choosing a printer you specify the virtual printer - PDFCreator.

Compared to on-line services, the program converts large files much faster, and I work according to this principle - small files up to 500 KB - conversion using on-line services, more than 500 KB - using the Pdfcreator program.

Installing and configuring the Pdfcreator program

The Pdfcreator program itself is quite simple to install, so it makes no sense to describe the entire process. The only point I would like to draw your attention to is the choice of language during the installation process. In the screenshot, I showed what needs to be done.

That's it, the installation of the program is complete, and if everything is done correctly, then in the list of printers installed in your operating system, it will appear virtual printer - PDFCreator

Now, if you want to carry out the conversion procedure for a word document, then simply select the PDFCreator printer from the drop-down list and click OK.

After these steps, you will see another window where you can specify the document title and other parameters. Click the Save button and select a location to save the PDF document.

Friends, out of more than 10 services I tested, these 3 are the most practical to use and efficient. If you know any other good services, write to

PDF or Portable Document Format is a format created by Adobe and is one of the most popular text document formats. Most often, the PDF format is used to publish electronic versions of newspapers, magazines, books, scientific articles and other documents, the further editing of which is not provided.

However, sometimes there is a need to open a PDF file in Word and make some edits to it. Unfortunately, it is impossible to do this directly. First, the PDF file must be saved in a format understandable to the Word editor, and only then can you work with it.

Now we will look at several options on how to do this. The article will be relevant for all versions of Word, including Word 2003, 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2016.

Option #1: Simply copy the text from the PDF into Word.

If the PDF file is small or you only need an excerpt, then you can simply paste it into Word and then correct the text formatting. Very often it takes less time than installing special programs and converting a PDF file to Word format.

In order to copy text, open the PDF file in any program that supports it (for example, you can use Adobe Reader), select the text and copy it using the CTRL+C key combination or using the context menu. Then just go to Word and paste the copied text.

It should be noted that copying text does not always work. For some PDF documents this function may be blocked. In this case, you need to use other ways to open PDF files in Word.

Option number 3. Recognize the PDF document using ABBYY FineReader.

If you often work with texts, then you are probably familiar with a program such as ABBYY FineReader. Its main purpose is to recognize text on scanned documents, but you can also use it to recognize PDF files.

This is done very simply. Launch the ABBYY FineReader program, click on the “Open” button and select the PDF file that you want to open in Word.

As a result, the Word editor should open with the contents of your PDF document.

Option #3. Use PDF-WORD converters

If you can’t simply copy the text, and there is no ABBYY FineReader program, then you can resort to the help of converter programs. These are programs with which you can then open it in Word. Below we will look at several such programs.

UniPDF() is a free and very simple program for converting PDF files to Word. All you have to do is launch UniPDF, add a PDF file to it that needs to be opened in Word, select the output format (Word), click on the “Contert” button and specify a folder to save the results of your work. After this, a Word document will appear in the specified folder, which you can open and edit.

Solid Converter() – a paid program for converting PDF files to Word with a trial period of 15 days. During the trial period, a watermark with the program logo is applied to the resulting Word files, but it can be removed. To convert a PDF file to Word, launch Solid Converter, click on the button in the upper left corner, select “Open PDF” and point to the PDF file that you want to open in Word.

After the file opens, click on the “PDF to Word” button and save the resulting Word file.

As a result, you will receive a file in Word format that you can open and edit.

Option #4: Use online converters.

If you need to open a PDF file in Word, but there is no way to install the program, then you can use online converters. Usually they produce quality a little worse than specialized programs, but not critical.

You can find an online converter in any search engine using the query “pdf to word conterter”. For example, you can use the site

It's important to know how to save the documents you work with. Saving documents frequently allows you to avoid losing the work you've done, and using it allows you to edit a document while leaving the original unchanged.

Whenever you create a new document in Word, you need to know how to save it for later access and editing. Word allows you to save documents in several ways.

To use the Save As command:

To use the Save command:

  1. Click the Save command on the Quick Access Toolbar.
  2. The document will be saved in the same location where it is currently located and with the same name.

If you are saving a document for the first time and select Save, the Save As dialog box appears.

Word automatically saves your documents as you work in a temporary folder. If you forget to save your changes or Word has a problem, you can restore the autosaved file.

By default, Word automatically saves a file every 10 minutes. If you edit a document for less than 10 minutes, Word may not have time to create an automatic version of the document.

Nowadays, many organizations use PDF documents. But there is a situation when a user unfamiliar with such subtleties finds himself faced with the need to convert a text file to PDF. So how to convert "Word" to "PDF"? It should be noted that solving this problem, difficult at first glance, is not too difficult.

By the way, why exactly “PDF”? Why is this format so good? The fact is that office users have long had a need for some kind of centralized document format that could be read everywhere, regardless of the operating system and installed software. Until recently, DOC could have been considered such a format, since our users were not particularly concerned about issues of pirated software.

But in recent years, not all small companies install the MS Office package on their work computers, making do with free analogues. Fortunately, these have recently appeared in abundance (and in good quality).

Unfortunately, one of their drawbacks is their not very impressive compatibility with standard Office formats, which results in spreadsheets and text in Word. In a word, the question of how to translate “Word” into “PDF” is very relevant. After all, PDF is an excellent and secure format that can be used on all operating systems, and in some cases you don’t even need to install additional programs.

Let's consider such a translation in the case of using MS Office Word. If you use versions 2010-2013, then there will be no problems. Open the “File” menu, look for the “Save As” item, enter the required file name and find PDF in the drop-down list of formats. Click “OK” and admire the fresh file. But if Word version 2003-2007 is installed on your computer, you will have to download a special extension from the Microsoft website that allows you to save documents in a secure format. After installing it, you will need to follow the steps described above. Since it is very easy to convert Word to PDF using these methods, even a beginner can handle it.

But quite often there are directly opposite situations. For example, you came across a PDF file that contains valuable information: naturally, you will need to transfer it from PDF to Word. We warn you that it is best to work with files that are not password protected. What to do with him? Find the FineReader application. The latest versions of this wonderful program have an option that will allow you to convert PDF files into the familiar .doc. By the way, using the plugins of the same program, you can perform the exact opposite operation: convert “Word” to “PDF”.

In addition, you can convert a standard text format file into a secure document using an office suite. Everything there is almost identical to what you would have to do in Word. Go to the “File” menu, select “Save As”, and then follow the instructions described above. In addition, on the toolbar of these office packages there is a separate button for such recoding. Thus, you don’t have to think long about how to convert “Word” to “PDF” - it’s quite easy to do.
