Connecting a zyxel router to a beeline. Setting up a router from Zyxel for Beeline. Setting up a connection via L2TP

This step-by-step instructions details how to set up a Zyxel Keenetic Lite Wi-Fi router to work with Beeline home Internet and set a Wi-Fi password. The manual configuration of the router will be shown, and not the automatic one (which it starts when you first log into the admin panel).

An example setup is given for Zyxel Keenetic Lite 3, but the essence will be the same for previous models of this router.

How to connect Zyxel Keenetic Lite

The first step before you start setting up is to connect the router correctly. On the back of the Zyxel Keenetic Lite 3 there are 4 ports for local devices and one Internet port.

Connect the provider's cable to the Internet port, and the cable from the computer on which the setup is being done to one of the yellow ports on your home network. The setup can be done without a cable by connecting to it via Wi-Fi (the password for the network is indicated on the sticker on the back of the router), but I recommend, if possible, using a cable connection. Also make sure the Mode switch is set to Basic.

After that, plug the router into a power outlet and wait a minute or two until it boots up.

After connecting to the router, take the following steps to set up your Beeline Internet connection:

At this point, the setup of the connection to Beeline is completed and the Internet is distributed by the router, i.e. you can use it on all connected devices. If desired, you can change the Wi-Fi password and wireless network name.

At this point, the setup of your Zyxel Keenetic Lite router for Beeline is complete, you can use it.

Zyxel Keenetic Start is a light model of Zyxel Keenetic. However, Keenetic Start will perfectly solve the problem of connecting electronic devices to the Internet. The router will allow you to connect home computers and all kinds of gadgets into a network and provide simultaneous access to the Internet from several devices via Wi-Fi.

For guest devices, it is possible to allocate a separate Wi-Fi network with Internet access, but with limited access to personal data. A standard firewall is responsible for the information security of a home network.

Router configuration and appearance

The router's equipment is minimal: a small network cable, documentation and a power supply. All inscriptions on the device body are made in Russian. The device is available for wall mounting. In a convenient place is the WPS activation key - a function that allows you to simply and immediately connect Wi-Fi devices to the router, without using an encryption key.

In appearance, the router in question is very similar to its older brother (Keenetic 4GII). It only differs in the absence of USB ports and the presence of only one 2dBi antenna.

The device is quite compact (140x110x30 mm). Its weight is only 180 grams.

On the top side there is a trademark of the manufacturer, a WPS button to enable an automatic secure Wi-Fi connection, and LED indicators for power, the inclusion of a wireless Wi-Fi module, the presence of an Internet connection and connection to lan ports.

All ports and connectors are located on the back of the router.

Connection and preparation for work

Connecting the Zyxel Keenetic Start router may seem complicated at first glance.

Let's consider the connection process in detail:

After connecting the router, it is important to configure the Zyxel Keenetic Start router. To configure it, you first need to log in to the router interface.

Login to settings

There is no need for specialized programs to configure and maintain the router. All control of the router is carried out using a web browser.

To enter the router interface, you must do the following:

In Zyxel routers, there is a “Quick Setup” for initial Internet setup.

Internet connections

The router supports several options for connecting to the Internet, which are determined primarily by the choice of communication service provider.

PPPoE for Dom.ru, TTK and Rostelecom

The sequence of actions for setting up a router from Zyxel for these providers (Rostelecom, TTK and Dom.ru) is as follows:

An Internet connection will be created.

Dynamic IP

To set up an Internet connection with a dynamic address, you must:

The Internet connection with a dynamic IP address is ready.

How to set up a Zyxel Keenetic Start router for Beeline

The sequence of actions for setting up the router in question for Beeline is as follows:

As a result of the actions taken, a new connection for Beeline will be created.

Local LAN

To configure local network options on the wi-fi router in question, you need to:

WiFi

The sequence of steps for setting up a Wi-Fi connection on the Zyxel Keenetic Start device is as follows:

IPTV

IPTV is a special technology that uses a specialized IP protocol when transferring information over networks. Thanks to this, television broadcasting of channels is realized using multicast transmission. For IPTV to function, you just need to install the latest version of the device’s firmware, and the application will automatically make the correct settings.

In the router in question, the “Applications” tab is responsible for setting up IPTV, in which you should enter the required parameters and save.

Resetting the router

In order to reset the router, you must perform the following steps:

After this, the router's power indicator will start blinking and then the router's settings will be reset to factory settings (default settings).

Updating the firmware

Quite often there are cases when it is vital to update the firmware of a device. Despite the fact that this is a very responsible action, if you follow certain instructions, it is not at all difficult to install a new version of the software yourself.

It is recommended to update the software in question by connecting to the router using an Ethernet cable. To update the firmware, you need to use the standard component update function. It is important that you have a stable Internet connection when performing the update.

To update the firmware on a Zyxel router you need to:

It’s not for nothing that Zyxel positions Keenetic Start as an entry-level Internet center. Its setup is very trivial, and its capabilities allow you to create a compact computer network without much difficulty. This is an ideal choice for home and compact office.

Over the past year 2013, the Beeline provider has changed a lot regarding connection settings. Now you don’t need to set static routes when setting up an “L2TP client” connection, since the device will receive the routes automatically (via DHCP). True, in some UNIX systems this option does not work, but in “good” routers, like the ZyXEL Keenetic II, everything is implemented as it should. For example, we will show how to configure a ZyXEL WiFi router under Beeline/Corbina/VympelCom if an L2TP connection is used.

Keenetic devices of the “2” family

Actually, these instructions are also suitable for other devices belonging to the Keenetic II family (Giga, 4G, Ultra). It is not necessary to set routes, but you need to remember to select the correct additional parameters. The identification method used in the Beeline VPN tunnel is “CHAP”.

Every model listed here has this option. But in some of them (for example, Giga) you can select the “Auto” value so that the router itself determines which identification to enable. In fact, it is recommended to select “CHAP”, but everything works with “Auto” (tested)!

Do I need to clone my MAC?

The interface of any modern router allows you to change the MAC address. As for connecting to Beeline, it is not at all necessary to use the same MAC - identification is still carried out using a password. However, if you want the “old” IP address to remain yours, then the only way to achieve this is MAC cloning. Note that if we are talking about a router with gigabit ports, this option is used with caution. There should not be two different devices on the network that have the same MAC addresses, but this requirement must be met only for Giga and Ultra models.

Let's say that when you open the IPoE page of the Giga router, you decide to use the MAC address of the computer:

Cloning MAC, Keenetic Giga

By saving the settings using the “Apply” button, you will receive a non-working wired LAN. What to do next? On your computer, in the network card settings, you need to change the MAC address, coming up with some new value:

In Device Manager, find the Ethernet controller, open its properties and follow the instructions in the screenshot. Happy swapping!

Setting up a connection with Beeline

First of all, we note that this covers setting up an Internet connection, and nothing more. It is assumed that you can open the web interface using a PC or a wireless device (it doesn’t matter). The main thing is to go to the web interface, and what to do next is shown in the screenshots. For those who don’t know, we report the IP of the ZyXEL device, as well as the default login and password: 192.168.1.1, admin, 1234.

Setting Ethernet Connection Parameters

So, you have opened the web interface of the Kinetic-2 router. Immediately click on the “Earth” icon and go to the “IPoE” tab:

Start page of the Internet group

  • While on the "IPoE" tab, click "Add"

IPoE page, no connection

  • On the new page, set the required parameters as indicated below (MTU=1500, “Enable”, “Direct Internet connection”)

Ethernet connection settings tab

  • One checkbox (top) must be placed under the “blue” port, but if a TV set-top box is used, two checkboxes must be placed under the other port
  • You can click Apply and the settings will be saved.

In our example, port “1” is selected for the TV set-top box, but you can do it differently. By the way, the set-top box must be turned off while the setup is being performed.

Remember: if we are talking about the Ethernet level, the MTU value is set to 1500. But when setting up L2TP, a different value of 1400 is used.

However, in Keenetic devices of the “2” family this parameter cannot be specified, but you can enable auto-adjustment. And on the “IPoE” tab there may be a checkmark marked like this: “Do not reduce TTL.” Don't expose it.

Setting up a connection via L2TP

While in the router interface, you can use the “Internet” -> “L2TP” tab. In some interfaces, the “PPPoE/VPN” tab is available instead, but there is not much difference - make the transition, click “Add”. The following page will appear:

Parameters L2TP, "Kinetic-2"

Let's list how best to set the parameters:

  • “Enable interface” – required
  • “Description” – any set of characters
  • “Connect via” – be sure to select “Broadband connection (ISP)”
  • The username and password are set according to the agreement, and the server is currently used: tp.internet.beeline.ru
  • Check the "chap" box
  • Activate the "TCP-MSS" auto-tuning option.

By clicking “Apply” you will get a working connection. Happy setup!

This is what the tab in question looks like in the interface of another router called Keenetic II Giga:

VPN parameters, "Kinetic-2 Giga"

Please note the following:

  • We did not enable "Data Encryption" or "CCP" option
  • “Authentication method” is set to “Auto”, but it is better to set “chap”
  • “TCP-MSS auto-tuning” is, of course, also enabled.

Apart from the two indicated pages, you do not need to use anything else. After completing the setup, wait for the connection to be established, and then check the Internet availability. For example, open the website ya.ru or Google in your browser.
